Favorite Article

My favorite reading was Consequences of Online Social Behavior. I thought this reading was the most interesting and something that they should be making every person read starting in middle school. I think there are so many wonderful aspects of having social networking websites. I love being able to share photos with my friends and family, as well as being able to see what they are up to, and write on their wall. I find it easier to communicate when we have busy schedules because you don’t have the rush you do when you are calling or texting to reply right away. Although social networking plays a wonderful role in our lives, is it really a healthy one? When friends are in fights, or relationships come to an end, is when social networking becomes and issue. I think most of us can relate to these situations where social networking gets taken to a whole new level and it starts to become extremely unhealthy. Whether it is “creeping” on their page often, or writing rude things to other people for them to see, or even writing status’ to make a statement and express yourself in an explicit way is when I think social networking is damaging our society. I think school’s should begin to stress this students that it is not okay and they are only harming themselves.

Comm131P

I thought this class was great! I learned so many different aspects about media and I found that it is a passion of mine. I love staying interacted through text messaging, social networking, emailing and blogging. This class went far into detail about the media and even the history of it. I learned a great deal of information and that is something I will value for my future. I recently received an internship at 680 KNBR, and I will be in charge of social networking for their company. I cannot wait, and I think this class prepared me for this opportunity. Before taking this class I knew I wanted to be a news anchor and now, I feel like a job in the media field interests me just as much, I love networking and communicating with people, and I love how technology today allows us to do so!

Collective Behavior In Youtube

The article discusses the important role that Youtube plays in our media today. People are able to express themselves through these videos in all kinds of ways. I enjoyed reading about Collective Behavior. Collective behavior is both a political and communication phenomenon because its expression is tied to forms of communication. New media has now made mass opinion possible. Youtube has been a great way for people who have a special talent, to express that talent and get noticed. Justin Beiber is a great example of this. He would show off his skills on Youtube and Myspace, and that is how he was noticed and has become one of the biggest young stars today. I think this article is great and shows the positives that new media brings to our society. I think it is important to use these amazing resources, but not abuse them. People who use them to put up pointless things, or negative things is only hurting our society.

Iphone 5

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_technews/20110427/ts_yblog_technews/upgrade-your-life-iphone-5-preview

I thought this article was very interesting. Most of us students have Iphones now especially since ATT is not the only carrier now. I love staying up to date on the latest technology. I bought the Iphone4 right when it came out, shortly after, I sold it on Craigslist for $600, and I thought it was worth it! I am excited for the Iphone5 to come out because my 3Gs is starting to fall apart after almost two years of having it. This article discusses what the Iphone MIGHT have, it is not set in stone and it is just rumored because if someone who works for Apple released the information they would lose their job and be in a big lawsuit. The article discusses how the phone will most likely be thinner, with a bigger screen, better camera, and videocamera, and like usual, faster. I think it will be interesting to see what else they will do that isn't already rumored to change. I was hoping that you will be able to Facetime without having to be on a WIFI connection.

World Wide Web

The World Wide Web has become an extremely powerful part of our world today. I remember when I first starting using the computer and I always wondered why I had to type in "WWW. " before whatever website I wanted to go to. Each year our technology seems to get better and better. When I was eight years old , my family received our first computer, and that is when I got my first screen name. We had dial up internet that we used in order to get online, (American Online, AOL). That letter lead to getting DSL internet and not having to "dial up." Now, we have internet on a cell phones, in our cars for GPS, and laptops that can be wireless, and that is in a matter of just thirteen years."The world wide web was developed to be a pool of human knowledge which would allow collaborators in remote sites to share their ideas and all aspects of a common project." I thought this was a great way to start off the article becaue it shows what the point of the WWW was and its true importance in our society today.

A virtual death

When I first began reading the article, I thought to myself, "Wow what an inspiration, to be able to write about your struggles for all to see." When I read further down and I found out that it was all completely made up I couldn't believe it. Why would someone do such a thing, and what made them want to make up something so horrific? This made me think of why the internet is a scary place aside from all of the positives of it. I thought of the Craigslist killer, and people who will pretend to be other people, and people who will even kidnap others they met online. The internet gives people a way to express themselves and if they don't want to be themselves they can be anyone and anything they want. The internet is a free for all, anyone of any age is able to whatever they want. This is one thing that has kept me from becoming a "true blogger." I think it would be great to have a blog and express whatever is going on in my life that I want to share with others. But, at the same time, it scares me who is monitoring this and what if it is someone that I don't even know, and then they know all about my life. I enjoyed reading this article, and it went really in depth about our internet today.

Mom Left Suicide Note On Facebook

A 25 year old mother from New York drove her car into the Hudson River on Tuesday killing herself and 3/4 of her children. The 25-year-old mom apologized for her actions in a cryptic Facebook message before driving her minivan into the frigid waters of the Hudson River. She wrote: “I’m so sorry everyone forgive me please for what I’m gonna do…. This Is It!!!!” The message posted to her page via a Blackberry, and was written at around 7:13 pm Tuesday, half an hour before the fatal plunge. She had been seen speeding through an intersection. Police later revealed that Armstrong was charged with child endangerment last February when one of her boys was found wandering the streets half naked. I could not believe this story. It is the most horrible thing and how unfair for the children, and to leave a note via Facebook is awful.
